When I started planning a 4th of July themed storytime, I knew there must be fireworks themed flannelboards out there, so I was really happy to find this one on Storytime With Miss Tara. When I went to the dollar store to find some bows for my fireworks, I found red, white, and blue tinsel garlands and knew they would make perfect, beautiful, sparkly fireworks. I just cut 5 or 6 short lengths of each garland and stapled them to a circle of black stiffened felt. I LOVE the way they turned out and the kiddos all wanted to touch them afterwards!
I told the group that I needed their help with this one and before I started we practiced wiggling our fingers and raising our hands on the “sizzle, sizzle, sizzle, sizzle” part and then clapping our hands together over our heads on “Boom!” Each time a firecracker went “Boom!” and became a firework in the sky, I got a lot of oohs and ahhs, just like in a real fireworks display!
5 little firecrackers getting ready to zoom,
Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle, sizzle, (wiggle fingers and raise hands slowly on each sizzle)
Boom! (clap hands over head and replace a firecracker with an exploded firework)

This one is so cute, and very creative. You are a good story time lady.

The original idea isn’t mine, but I really did like the way these fireworks turned out. And it was so much fun when all of the little ones and the parents were sizzling their fingers along with me and then clapping and booming to make the fireworks explode!
