The Picture Book Month theme for today is Books and you can also head over there and read Laura Rennert’s lovely take on the importance of picture books. Here are three of my favorite picture books about books:

Lola Loves Stories by Anna McQuinn, illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw

All of the Lola books are just wonderful and this one is no exception. Lola reads stories every night with her father and imagines herself in the story the following day. I think one of my favorite things about this book is the depiction of the relationship that Lola and her father have and their shared love of reading together.

The Wonderful Book by Leonid Gore

In this fun story, the animals find a book and, not knowing what it’s for, they each imagine different ways to use it. When a boy comes along and reads it, all the animals gather round to hear the story inside.

We Are In a Book! by Mo Willems

I love this book so much! Elephant and Piggie realize that being in a book means they can make the reader say anything they want. My favorite part is the hysterical laughter over making the reader repeatedly say “Banana!” But then Gerald realizes that the book has to end sometime…what will happen then?!
